Avert Adornments
in the news:
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Williams.
Hi Lindsay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a maker, a marketer, and a project coordinator. In terms of Avert Adornments, my jewelry brand is inspired by both of my grandmothers.
Treva is the namesake (Avert is Treva backwards!) and the put-together, classic, always perfectly accessorized Gram who delighted in the finest quality adornments. Carol is the wild one—she mixed polka dots with stripes with an admirable level of reckless abandon, and color was her friend. Blending their styles together has created a cohesive brand full of jewelry that can pull an outfit together, with just a hint of wildness to make it stand out.
I started this journey after several jewelry fabrication classes at Toledo Museum of Art with the incomparable artist & teacher Jane Lamanna, though my love of big earrings and bright colors has been lifelong!
Pour yourself a coffee, take a sip, and rock some new drip — literally.
Lindsay Williams and her life partner Bradley Scherzer paired up for a limited edition release of Coffee Date earrings in honor of National Coffee Day on Sept. 29. The cascading pour of marble-painted wood dripping over a laser-cut coffee cup is only the latest design in her jewelry line, Avert Adornments.
“It was fun,” Williams said. “We came up with different color waves based on coffee shops we like to go to, or coffee shops that we have gone to in our travels that have been memorable.”
The colorful design came about after the duo attended a marbling class in Detroit.
“It’s funny that they’re called Coffee Date, the collaboration, because it was kind of a date,” Williams said. “We went up to Detroit, and there is a place there called POST. It’s a shop that has really great classes.”
Scherzer designed the earring shape during his full-time job as a teacher at Fremont Ross High School and decided to bring the cut-outs along with him…
Williams and Scherzer have already sold out of most of their pieces, which became available on National Coffee Day. But Williams says there is no need to fret: The marbling design will not stop at their Coffee Date line.
“There’s plenty of other similar styles,” Williams said. “I think that’s the nice thing is I try to always keep some unifying elements like the marble. You can still find that if they end up being sold out.”
Some of the materials that Williams commonly uses for her jewelry even cater to vegan buyers; she offers sustainable options as much as possible…
As a couple, the pair work together on many of their projects. Scherzer says Williams’ degree in communications from the University of Toledo comes in handy for both of their businesses…
